Hannah’s Senior Model Session | Colorado Springs Photographer

I was so excited to get Hannah’s senior model application, and couldn’t wait to get her session scheduled! After we had our first meet and greet, we decided on a couple of different ideas she had for her senior pictures. One was more traditional, and that’s where we started at. We chose North Cheyenne Canon for our first session, and found some gorgeous spots that I haven’t used before. We started off in a open field with mountains in the background and then worked our way up through the canon. It was such a great pleasure getting to know Hannah and all of her accomplishments and her goals for the future. She is a great care taker and loves children, and has a bright future ahead of her in the hair and makeup industry. Here are a few of my favorites from her session!

Kala’s Senior Session | Colorado Springs Photographers

A couple of weeks ago I had the chance to shoot with Shayla Marin Photography on another senior session. Shayla and I are two peas in a pod when it comes to photography and photographing! It’s crazy how much we think a like and often have the same vision on a shoot. We have started our kick off with the senior class of 2018 and we had such a beautiful model-Kala. She was flawless with her modeling and did such a great job! We decided to do the this session in both digital and film. Shayla shot the digital while I did the film, and the turn out was fantastic! The location that we chose was near the studio. Old Farm Park. Here you can easily hike the plateaus and get a beautiful views of Colorado Springs and of Pikes Peak. It also have a dessert like feel to it, and you have to watch out for the cactus! Another cool thing about this park is that they have an old silo that we were able to get inside, and Shayla had a cool idea of using a smoke bomb with an umbrella-and these shots came out incredible! We started the shoot right about 4pm in the afternoon and into golden hour.  Here are some of our favorites:

Film Photography Adventures | Colorado Springs Photographer | Mamiya C220

Over the last few years there has been a come back in the film (analog) photography. I originally started off learning how to take pictures on a film camera, and there was so much to learn! Having to know how to use the aperture with the shutter speed, with ISO of the film….the list went on. I love a challenge, and I think that is part of the reason that I wanted to be a professional photographer. Film had really taken the back seat in 2009 (thats when I started my professional career) and I had to teach myself how to use a digital camera and what it meant to edit in photoshop. As the years have gone by, I began to notice that film was still being used and that you could pick up a camera pretty cheap. I have always wanted to shoot with medium format film, so I looked into a twin lens reflex (TLR) camera. Finally a couple of months ago I picked up this beauty at Camera Works in Colorado Springs for only $250! If you are from this area and looking for a camera this is the place to go! IMG_0145

I have been amazed with the photographs that it takes. They are crisp, and have feeling and depth to the images, and we did our first double exposure. My first model was a senior and I was beyond thrilled with the results from his shoot.

Shooting with film has helped me find my passion with photography again, and I can’t get enough of it! I decided that I am going to shoot film and digital with every session that I book. As a photographer in a big crowd, I find that it is very hard to stand out and get your name out there, and I have a feeling that this is my calling….my way of showing my art with uniqueness…..

Stay tuned for more adventures!!
